Flexi Season tickets

Flexi Season tickets

Got a question about Flexi Season tickets?

A Flexi Season ticket provides passengers with 8 days of travel in 28 days – any time between two named stations. The 8 days of travel doesn’t need to be specified in advance, giving part-time commuters more flexibility to travel when they want and need.

The Flexi Season ticket will offer a minimum of 20% discount on an equivalent Monthly Season ticket, offering savings for commuters travelling during peak times, 2-3 days a week.

Flexi Season tickets are available via sTicket or on The Key smartcard.

If you don’t have a Key smartcard then please allow plenty of time to get one before you travel – they can take up to 4 working days to arrive by post. Alternatively, you can register and receive a Key card immediately at a Southeastern ticket office.

Find out more about The Key smartcard. You will need to activate a day pass within your ticket before you travel.

You can travel with a Flexi Season ticket between:

 • two stations outside the London Travelcard Zones
 • one station outside and one station inside the London Travelcard Zones

Flexi Season tickets are not available for journeys between two stations within the London Travelcard Zones (Zones 1-9), or for journeys that include Travelcard add-ons. You can use Oyster Pay-As-You-Go or Contactless for travel on TfL services, as this already provides a convenient and flexible option for travel.

A Flexi Season ticket is a new kind of Season ticket that allows you to take advantage of a frequent travel discount, giving you 8 days of travel within a 28 day period.

You can use your 8 days of travel at any point during the 28-day period. Each time you activate a day's pass, you can travel as much as you like on the ticket's route, at any time of the day, much like on a normal Season ticket.

In comparison, with a standard Season ticket you can receive unlimited travel for a continuous period of a week, month, year or custom length of time. Children can also get discounted rates on standard Season tickets, but these aren't available on Flexi Season tickets.
Of course, the cost of a Flexi Season ticket will vary based on the journey bought, but the price will be at least 20% cheaper than buying a Monthly Season ticket.

In general, Flexi Season tickets provide the best value for travel for passengers travelling around 2-3 days a week, as they're also cheaper than buying Weekly Season tickets or Anytime Day tickets.

You can find which ticket option is best for you with our Season Ticket Calculator.

Flexi Season tickets are available via sTicket or on The Key smartcard.

Key smartcards can be purchased online, through our app, or at staffed ticket offices and at ticket vending machines at stations outside the London Travelcard Zones.

You can order a Key smartcard online, or you can get one and register it at a Southeastern ticket office.

Once you’ve purchased your Flexi Season ticket and before you travel, you will need to activate one of your 8 day passes using our Southeastern app.

If the station you're travelling from is gated, you can also scan your sTicket or tap your Key to activate one of your Flexi Season ticket passes.

If you don't activate your Flexi Season for a journey you take, and don't have any other appropriate ticket, you may be issued with a Penalty Fare Notice.

Flexi Season tickets are available for most cross-operator journeys involving Southeastern, as long as they're between two stations outside the London Travelcard Zones, or between one station outside and one station inside the Zones.

You can check if your intended journey is valid for a Flexi Season ticket.

While you can purchase more than one Flexi Season ticket at a time, we would recommend that you wait until you've used all 8 days travel on your active Flexi Season ticket before purchasing a new one.

If you do need to purchase another Flexi Season ticket before you've finished using your active Flexi Season ticket, please make sure the start date of your new Flexi Season ticket commences after the date you intend to use your last day of travel on your active Flexi Season ticket. This avoids your new Flexi Season ticket starting before you've used all 8 days travel on your active ticket, and you potentially losing the use of the rest of the first Flexi Season ticket's passes.

Just like standard Season tickets, Flexi Season tickets are for travel at any time of day, so there's no specific Off-Peak option.
Flexi Season tickets are for passengers who only need to travel a few times a week. As children travelling for education will have set travel times, five days a week (outside holidays), the Flexi Season ticket isn't right type of ticket for them. Instead, children aged 5-15 can travel on standard Season tickets with a 50% discount.

As with all cases where a Season ticket has been left at home, you'll need to purchase an additional ticket for travel on the day - this is because you must have a valid ticket before boarding a train for inspection. If you don't buy a ticket before you travel, you may be issued with a Penalty Fare Notice.

Please make sure to buy this ticket from Southeastern, and to retain it after use. Please also activate a Flexi Season ticket pass using our app. You can then then submit the additional ticket you purchased to Customer Services for a refund.

If you haven't been able to activate a pass for the day, or if you buy the extra ticket from a third party, then please be aware that no refund will be possible.

There are also rules around refunds for Season tickets being left at home:

 • On the first occasion, within a 12-month period, we’ll be happy to arrange a fee-free refund on the extra ticket.
 • On the second occasion, within this 12-month period, an administration fee of £5 will be charged.
 • Any further claims won’t be considered within that 12-month period.

If your Key card is lost or stolen, we'll block it and replace it (with any valid tickets pre-loaded) for you for free.

You can get this started by logging into your Southeastern account and selecting 'The Key Replacement' from the account menu. On the website, this is through the drop down menu in the top right. On the app, go to the three-bar menu in the bottom right, then select 'My Account'.

Whilst waiting for your new Key to arrive, you will need to buy tickets for travel, as you must have a valid ticket before boarding a train for inspection. If you don't buy a ticket before you travel, you may be issued with a Penalty Fare Notice.

Please make sure to buy these extra tickets from Southeastern, and to retain them after use. Please also activate a Flexi Season ticket pass using our app for each day you have to buy an extra ticket. You can then then submit any extra tickets to Customer Services for a refund.

If you haven't been able to activate a pass for the day, or if you buy the extra tickets from a third party, then please be aware that no refund will be possible.

There are also rules around refunds for Season tickets being lost:

  • On the first occasion, within a 12-month period, we’ll be happy to arrange a fee-free refund on the extra tickets.
  • On the second occasion, within this 12-month period, an administration fee of £5 will be charged.
  • Any further claims won’t be considered within that 12-month period.
If you've not been able to activate a pass, then it's important you buy an additional ticket for travel on the day - this is because you must have a valid ticket before boarding a train for inspection. If you don't buy a ticket before you travel, you may be issued with a Penalty Fare Notice.

Please make sure to buy this ticket from Southeastern, and to retain it after use. Please then contact Customer Services for any technical support you may need with your Flexi Season ticket or Key.
It's not possible to exchange Flexi Season tickets for another ticket type.

We recommend either using all your Flexi Season ticket passes and then buying a standard Season ticket, or applying for a refund of the remainder of your Flexi Season ticket.

Please see the information here for Flexi Season ticket refunds.
If you forget your Key smartcard you will need to buy a new ticket to make your journey.
If your Key smartcard is lost or stolen, we’ll block it so you won’t lose out, plus we will replace it for free.

Simply log in to your account, choose 'The Key replacement' in the drop-down menu, and fill in the form.
Sorry no, you can’t exchange a Flexi Season ticket for a regular Season ticket. In this scenario our recommendation would be to use up your eight day passes and then purchase a Season ticket.
The passes on a Flexi Season ticket are only available for use for one day at a time. The Flexi Season was specifically designed for people travelling out and back on the same day, across 8 different days, over a 28-day period.

This scenario would require two passes to be used, or we recommend looking into 'open' tickets, such as Weekender, Off-Peak Return, or Anytime Return tickets.
As with standard Season tickets, passengers with a 16-17 Saver Railcard, or a Job Centre Plus Travel Discount Card, will be able to get 50% off their Flexi Season ticket. No other Railcards or discounts are available.

Delay Repay is always available for passengers with a valid ticket who are delayed by at least 15 minutes when travelling on our services.

If you activated a pass on your Flexi Season ticket, and were then disrupted, you can claim through our Delay Repay form.

If you activated a pass but then weren't able to travel because of disruption, please also make a claim through Delay Repay.

However, if you didn't activate a pass, but then weren't able to travel because of disruption, no compensation is due, as a no ticket would have been valid for the journey. Please make sure to activate a pass on your Flexi Season ticket if you intend to travel.

Please see our dedicated page for Flexi Season ticket refunds.
