Environmental Performance update March 2025
We have set targets for against 7 key aspects of our businesses’ environmental performance.
The targets help focus activities in areas associated with our use of electricity to operate our trains, gas, and electricity to operate our stations, depots & offices, the carbon associated with our energy use, and how we manage our water and waste.
These figures set out our targets and our current performance against them. Green is where we are currently on track to meet our target, and yellow is where we need to do more to achieve our goals.

International Standard for Organisation (ISO) accreditations
We are pleased to share that our business is regularly assessed against the following ISO standards, helping us to continuously improve how our business performs.
- ISO14001 – Environment management system enables us to monitor continually improve our environmental performance.
- ISO50001 – Energy management system facilitates a practical way to improve energy use, through development of an energy management system.
- ISO20400 – Sustainable procurement provides guidance on how to procure goods responsibly.
- ISO45001 – Health & Safety management system ensures alignment with health and safety law and best practice.
