Houses of Parliament

Get right to the heart of political life in the UK with a visit to the historic Houses of Parliament in the stunning neo-Gothic Palace of Westminster on the banks of the Thames. It’s worth the trip just to admire the jaw-dropping architecture from Parliament Square. Audio and guided tours inside bring 1000 years of British politics to life, from the 11th century Westminster Hall - where Guy Fawkes was tried and Nelson Mandela addressed Parliament - through to the Queen’s Robing Room, the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is not just a beautiful place of worship – it’s a must-see living record of British history. The scene of 16 royal weddings and every coronation since 1066, the abbey is also the resting place of 17 Kings and Queens, along with many other key figures in British history and culture, including Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton. Inside, in the famous Poets’ Corner, where great writers like Austen, Bronte, Blake and Shakespeare are honoured, you’ll find the graves of some of the country’s creative greats, such as Chaucer, Dickens, Hardy, Tennyson and Kipling.
