Trains to Otford

The pretty village of Otford sits on a stretch of the ancient Pilgrims Way, surrounded by hills and open fields, with a handful of independent shops, a tea rooms and a pub, complete with an iconic duck pond which acts as a quirky roundabout.

Getting here: Just over 30 minutes from London Victoria. Otford station is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of the village.

Exploring the countryside

There are plenty of walks in and around Otford where you can explore the stunning countryside. Take in all the sights on a circular walk around the village, walk to nearby Kemsing and enjoy a pint of Kentish beer in The Bell, or hike a stretch of the North Downs Way National Trail.

A unique roundabout

Don’t miss the tranquil and intriguing pond roundabout in the centre of the village! Spot the wildlife amongst the reeds and soak up the village atmosphere. The pond has also been recognised as a Grade II listed building!

Heritage

Otford parish church is a Grade: I listed building where St Thomas Becket served as chaplain, and later as Archbishop when he lived at Otford Palace. The Archbishop's Palace first built in 1150 and in 1514 was rebuilt, making it larger than the first Hampton Court. King Henry VII and Henry VIII both visited, and Henry VIII liked it so much that he took ownership. Today, you can wander the Palace ruins and one remaining part of the gate house.

There are plenty of spots to stop for a picnic or treat yourself to a delicious cream tea at Sally's Cake Emporium. Enjoy a pint of Kent beer at The Bull, the historic pub is over 500 years old and dates back to Henry VIII and has a lovely beer garden.
