Trains to Herne Bay

Herne Bay, well worth a visit for its miles of coastal paths, areas of outstanding natural beauty, wide-open vistas and award-winning beaches. The town holds onto its traditional seaside fun with a pier, mini-golf and promenade coupled with a vibrant town and many independent traders. It’s a huge draw for families and sea lovers alike.

Getting here: highspeed trains from St Pancras International to Herne Bay take around 1 hour 20 minutes. The station is a 20 minute walk from the beach.

Oyster Bay Trail

Herne Bay is located in the middle of the Oyster Bay Trail which stretches 6.7 miles from Reculver to Swalecliffe. Walk or cycle this coastal route, taking in stunning panoramic sea views, woodland and grassland. Either start or finish at Reculver where you’ll find the historic Reculver Towers.

Reculver Country Park & Towers

Discover the ruins of the Roman fort and the majestic Reculver Towers that dominate the skyline along the Saxon Shore Way, acting as a navigation marker for ships at sea. The site later became a monastery and then became the parish church. The towers are set in Reculver Country Park, a coastal habitat teeming with wildlife and plants.

Herne Bay Pier

Walk along Herne Bay Pier, browse the retail village for a wide range of food & drink, and pick up a gift from the unique retail huts. Ride the old-fashioned fairground horses, have a go on the helter skelter or simply enjoy the sea air whilst taking in the wonderful views.

Seaside Museum

From Dambusters to floods, piers to Punch and Judy, the Seaside Museum has plenty of surprises under one roof. Displays include local paintings, prints and photos, prehistoric straight tusked elephant tusks and fossils from local beaches, coastal wildlife and a Barnes Wallis Bouncing Bomb prototypes from World War Two. With a rolling programme of exhibitions and events there is always something new to see and do.
