All types of Railcard allow you to purchase a train ticket at a reduced rate. There are currently eight main types of Railcard available, they are:
16-17 Saver
Eligible for 16 to 17 year olds
Cost: £30 for one year
Benefits: 50% off standard Anytime, Off-peak, Advance and Season tickets.
16-25 Railcard
Eligible for people aged 16-25 or over 26 and in full-time education
Cost: £30 for one year. £70 for three years
Benefits: 1/3 off UK rail fares including all standard and first class Advance Tickets.
26-30 Railcard
Eligible for people aged between 26-30 years old
Cost: £30 for one year
Benefits:1/3 off UK rail fares for leisure journeys across Britain
Disabled Persons Railcard
Eligible for people who have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult
Cost: £20 for one year
Benefits: 1/3 off standard & first class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance fares for you and a friend
Buy a Disables Persons Railcard
Family & Friends Railcard
Eligible for one or two adults named as cardholders. While they don’t have to travel together, they do need to be travelling with the card and at least one child rate passenger gets the discount. In total, up to 4 adults and 4 children can travel on the Railcard – and you don’t need to be related.
Cost: £30 for one year. £70 for three years.
Benefits: 1/3 off rail fares for up to 4 adults and 60% off for up to 4 children between 5 and 15
Buy a Family & Friends Railcard
Network Railcard
Eligible for anyone over 16 in the Network Railcard area. Up to three adults travelling with the cardholder will also receive a discount off their fare. You can take up to four children (aged 5 to 15) with you at a reduced rate.
Cost: £30 for one year
Benefits: 1/3 off adult fares and 60% off child fares in London and the South East
Senior Railcard
Eligible for people aged 60 or over
Cost: £30 for one year. £70 for three years
Benefits: 1/3 off rail travel, including all standard and first class fares
Two Together Railcard
Eligible for two named people travelling together. They don’t have to be related.
Cost: £30 for one year
Benefits: 1/3 off travel, including all adult standard and first class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advanced fares
Veterans Railcard
Eligible for those who have served for at least one day or more in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) or Merchant Mariners and have seen duty on legally defined military operations.
Cost: Introductory price is £21 if purchased before 31 March 2021, £30 normally for a 1 year Railcard. Introductory price is £61 if purchased before 31 March 2021, £70 normally for a 3 year Railcard.
Benefits: 34% discount on Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Advance fares, and Off-Peak PAYG single fares and PAYG daily price cap in London Zonal Area. Up to 4 children aged 5-15 can also travel at 60% discount only when travelling with the cardholder.
If you have an Annual Gold Card, you can buy one of the following yearly Railcards for just £10, either for yourself or someone else:
