What has happened?
There is a signalling problem at Herne Hill and all lines are blocked in the area following a fire yesterday. Repairs are being made but service is expected to continue being disrupted through the morning at least.
How does this affect my journey?
Southeastern services between London Victoria and Orpington, and Beckenham Junction and London Blackfriars will be cancelled until further notice.
Trains are unable to serve the following stations:
- Brixton
- Herne Hill
- West Dulwich
- Penge East
- Sydenham Hill
- Kent House
- Beckenham Junction
Additional services will be put in place between Orpington and Beckenham Junction and will depart:
- 20 minutes past the hour from Orpington
- 50 minutes past the house from Beckenham Junction
What should I do?
You can use the following alternative services at no extra cost:
- London Underground Victoria line between Brixton, London Victoria and other Southeastern London terminals
- London Buses between London Victoria, Bromley South and the affected stations
- London Trams between East Croydon, Beckenham Junction and Elmers End
- Southern between Beckenham Junction and London Bridge
- Southern and Thameslink between East Croydon and London Bridge / London Victoria

Thameslink customer advice:
Thameslink trains which usually run between Sutton / Wimbledon and St Albans City have been altered in both directions.
How have trains been altered?
- Trains which usually run between Sutton / Wimbledon and St Albans City will only run between Herne Hill and St Albans City and there will be a slightly reduced service in both directions
- Trains which usually run between Rainham and Luton will run as usual, but will make additional stops between London and Luton to help maintain connections
This means, if you are travelling between Sutton, Wimbledon and Herne Hill, you will need to use an alternative route of travel which may extend your journey time by up to 30 minutes.
Ticket acceptance:
To keep you on the move, your ticket will be accepted on the below services at no additional cost;
- London Trams between Wimbledon, Mitcham Junction, West Croydon and East Croydon
- South Western Railway services between Epsom, Wimbledon, Clapham Junction and London Waterloo
- Southern services on any reasonable route, including via Mitcham Junction
- Thameslink services on any reasonable route, including between Sutton and London Blackfriars, and between East Croydon and London Bridge
- London Buses between Sutton, West Croydon / East Croydon and the Central London area
- London Underground services on any reasonable route, including between London terminals

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Yesterday, on Tuesday 1 July, a fire next to the railway caused great damage to the signalling equipment in the Herne Hill area, and trains were disrupted as a result.
Every effort has been put into working alongside Network Rail overnight in a joint goal of getting as much track open as possible so we can run as many trains as possible. These efforts continue into the morning and some trains have had to be altered as a result , which may disrupt your journey.

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.

All routes via Lewisham
Engineering work is taking place overnight at Lewisham station, closing some lines.
From approximately 23:15, trains will not be able to stop at Lewisham.
Trains via Bexleyheath will not run or will be diverted to run via Sidcup.
On Monday and Tuesday, trains on the Hayes line will be diverted after New Beckenham to Bromley South except the last train 00:09 London Cannon Street to Hayes which will not run.
Accessible replacement buses will run on the following routes between:
- London Bridge and Dartford via Bexleyheath
- London Bridge and Hayes (Monday and Tuesday only, departing at 23:50 and 00:20)
- Lewisham and Hayes
- Lewisham and Dartford via Sidcup (00:50 from Lewisham only)
- London Bridge and Orpington (01:10 from London Bridge only)
Alternative travel options:
You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following alternative services:
Docklands Light Railway between Lewisham and Greenwich.
London Bus routes:
- 21, 225 and 273 between Hither Green, Lewisham and New Cross
- P4, 284 and 122 between Ladywell and Lewisham

Engineering work is taking place overnight at various locations on the Southeastern network, closing some lines.
Monday to Thursday:
- From 23:40 until the end of service, accessible buses replace trains between Dartford and Gravesend
- The 23:50 London St Pancras International to Faversham service will be replaced by accessible buses between Ebbsfleet International, Gillingham and Faversham calling at all stations except Higham, Newington and Teynham
- From 23:50 until the end of service, trains via Maidstone East will be diverted after Otford to run via Sevenoaks
Accessible replacement buses will run between:
- Sevenoaks and Maidstone East calling at all stations except East Malling
- Maidstone East and Ashford International calling at all stations
- West Malling and East Malling minibus shuttle
Tuesday to Friday:
The 04:33 Gravesend to London Charing Cross via Sidcup train will start from Dartford at 04:50. To connect with this train at Dartford, you will need to use a Thameslink train between Gravesend and Dartford

Southeastern services which run between Blackheath and Charlton
Engineering work is taking place on the Blackheath Tunnel, closing all lines between Blackheath and Charlton from Sunday 18 May until the end of the day on Sunday 27 July.

No trains will run between Blackheath and Charlton.
Most trains between Dartford and London Cannon Street via Woolwich Arsenal / Lewisham will be diverted to run via Greenwich, however at peak times some of these trains will be diverted to run via Bexleyheath.
There will be two trains per hour between Blackheath and London Cannon Street. At peak times some additional trains will run between Dartford and London Cannon Street via Bexleyheath. Alternative travel options:
You can use the following routes at no extra cost:
- London Bus routes 54 and 380 between Blackheath, Charlton and Woolwich, and between Charlton and Greenwich
- Docklands Light Railway between Lewisham and Greenwich
- You can also travel with your ticket at no extra cost between London Bridge and Dartford to make connections on the Woolwich and Bexleyheath lines, or towards Petts Wood, though a break of journey will not be possible at these points.
You can also use London Bus route SL3 between Abbey Wood, Bexleyheath and Sidcup railway stations but normal TfL fares will apply.
Docklands Light Railway will be closed on the following dates:
- Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June
- Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June
- Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July
- Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July
- Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July
During the weekends affected, you will be able to use the DLR 4 bus replacement service between Greenwich and Lewisham at no extra cost.

Engineering work is taking place at various locations on the Southeastern network, closing some lines overnight from Monday to Thursday.
These changes may be subject to further alteration on some days, such as starting earlier, or not taking place at all. Please check your journey using the Journey Planner, and also check other items on our engineering pages for the date of your journey.
Mondays only:
Every Monday night, Network Rail carry out essential maintenance on the lines between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Canterbury West.
From 23:50 until the end of service, buses replace trains between Ashford International and Canterbury West / Ramsgate.
Mondays and Tuesdays:
Every Monday and Tuesday night, Network Rail carry out essential maintenance on the lines to and from London Charing Cross.
There will be no trains at London Charing Cross or London Waterloo East from approximately 23:30 until the end of service.
Trains will run from London Cannon Street instead, and you will need to travel to / from London Cannon Street / London Bridge.
Tuesdays only:
Every Tuesday night, Network Rail carry out essential maintenance on the lines between Faversham and Ramsgate via Margate.
From 23:30 until the end of service, buses replace trains between Faversham and Margate / Ramsgate.
Wednesdays and Thursdays:
Every Wednesday and Thursday night, Network Rail carry out essential maintenance on the lines to / from London Cannon Street.
There will be no trains at London Cannon Street from approximately 23:35 until the end of service.
Trains will run to / from London Charing Cross instead, if you could please make your way to London Bridge for these trains.

Monday to Thursday only:
From 23:00 until the end of service, you can use London Underground between Charing Cross, Embankment, Cannon Street, London Bridge, Southwark and Waterloo at no extra cost.
