Catchin' trains to catch some rays

This summer, we are providing more carriages on busy routes to the coast, and once on board you will find that fresh air flows through all of our trains from air conditioning, vents or windows you can open if you need to.

You may still find trains are busier on warm days this week as people head out to cool off at the seaside. Our popular destinations are Margate, Hastings, Broadstairs, Folkestone, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Canterbury and Gillingham.

Trains can be busy towards the coast from 1030 to 1330 and returning between 1600 to 1900, so avoid these times if you can. You can use our handy SeatFinder tools to find the quietest trains.

Very hot weather can have an impact on our services so please, remember to check before you travel and carry water with you to stay hydrated during your journey. You can keep up-to-date on our service disruption page, our WhatsApp channel or by following us on X or BlueSky.

In our "Metro" area, our "City Beam" trains have air conditioning, you can find out which services are scheduled to be this train type by checking our online timetables. If you sign-up for journey alerts through our app or website, we'll let you know if there's any changes.

Engineering work is taking place on Sunday 12 July, affecting trains at Cannon Street, and some of the lines through New Cross used by services to and from London Cannon Street. London Cannon Street, St Johns and New Cross will be closed all day.
You may use your ticket at no extra cost on these services at no extra cost:
- London Underground services between Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Embankment, Waterloo, Southwark and London Bridge.
- Docklands Light Railway services between Lewisham and Greenwich.

Because of major engineering work, there will be no trains at Charing Cross or Waterloo East from Sunday 26 July until Sunday 16 August inclusive, with additional weekend closures for preparation & follow-up work.

Engineering work for Today

No trains to / from London Cannon Street, or via Greenwich on Sunday 12 July

All Southeastern services to / from London Cannon Street

Engineering work is taking place on the lines between London Cannon Street, London Bridge and Greenwich, and some of the lines through New Cross used by services to and from London Cannon Street. London Cannon Street, Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill, Westcombe Park, St Johns and New Cross will be closed all day.

Woolwich Line: Trains between London Cannon Street and Slade Green via Greenwich will not run. Additional trains will run between London Charing Cross and Dartford via Woolwich.

Bexleyheath line: Trains between London Cannon Street and Slade Green via Bexleyheath will not run. Trains between London Victoria and Dartford will run normally, so stations between Kidbrooke and Barnehurst inclusive will have a reduced service, every 30 minutes.

Accessible replacement buses will run between Lewisham and Charlton via New Cross and Greenwich.

Alternative travel options:

You can use London Underground between Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Embankment, Waterloo, Southwark and London Bridge at no extra cost.

You can use Docklands Light Railway between Lewisham and Greenwich at no extra cost.

The following stations will be closed all day, and will only be served by replacement buses:

St Johns
Deptford
Greenwich
Maze Hill
Westcombe Park

Please be aware that Thameslink services are affected by this work, and will run a reduced service to / from London Bridge, and will not run between London Bridge and Plumstead.

Buses replace trains on routes via Orpington on Sunday 12 July

Southeastern between London Charing Cross and Sevenoaks / Hastings and also between London Victoria and OrpingtonThameslink between London Victoria and Orpington

Engineering work is taking place between Petts Wood and Sevenoaks, closing all lines.

Southeastern:

There will be no trains via Orpington all day.

Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Ramsgate / Dover Priory via Tonbridge will run at different times than usual for part of the journey and run via an alternative route between London Bridge and Sevenoaks.

Trains between London Charing Cross and Dover Priory will only run between London Charing Cross and Ashford International because of further engineering work.

Hastings Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Hastings will run at different times than usual for part of their journey, will be diverted via an alternative route and will not be able to stop at Orpington.

Bromley South Line: Trains between London Victoria and Orpington will only run between London Victoria and Bromley South.

Grove Park Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Sevenoaks will only run between London Charing Cross and Chislehurst.

Accessible replacement buses will run between:

Bromley South and Orpington calling at all stations
Chislehurst and Sevenoaks calling at all stations

The following stations will be closed, and will only be served by accessible buses:

Petts Wood
Orpington
Chelsfield
Knockholt
Dunton Green

Thameslink:

Buses will replace trains between Orpington and Herne Hill before 07:30.

No Thameslink trains run to / from Orpington after 07:30 on a Sunday.

Engineering work is taking place between Ashford International and Dover Priory, closing some lines.

Highspeed via Ashford International: Trains between London St Pancras International and Ramsgate via Dover Priory will only run between London St Pancras International and Ashford International. Additional trains will run between Dover Priory and Ramsgate.

Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Dover Priory via Tonbridge will only run between London Charing Cross and Ashford International and will run at different times than usual for part of the journey.

Accessible buses will run between:

Ashford International and Dover Priory calling at Folkestone West and Folkestone Central only
Ashford International and Dover Priory calling at all stations except Westenhanger
A minibus will run between Sandling and Westenhanger*

Amended late night / early morning Southeastern services to / from London St Pancras International on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July

Southeastern between London St Pancras International and Ashford International / Ramsgate

Engineering work is taking place between London St Pancras International and Ashford International, closing all lines on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Saturday:

The 22:08 Ramsgate to London St Pancras International will only run between Ramsgate and Ashford International. An additional train will depart Ashford International at 23:19, calling at Maidstone East, London Bridge, Waterloo East and London Charing Cross.

Accessible replacement buses will run between Ebbsfleet International and Maidstone East, connecting with trains between Maidstone East and Ashford International.

Sunday:

The 00:12 London St Pancras International to Ashford International will not run. An additional train will leave London Charing Cross at 00:46, calling at London Waterloo East, London Bridge and Maidstone East.

Accessible replacement buses will run between Ebbsfleet International and Maidstone East, connecting with trains between Maidstone East and Ashford International.

The 08:20 London St Pancras International to Ramsgate will depart later at 08:30. This train will run non-stop between Faversham and Margate. You should change at Faversham for connecting trains for stations between Faversham and Margate.

The lifts will be out of order between Car Park and station subway from 06:20 on 20/01/2026 until further notice at Faversham station.

Sevenoaks: Lifts out of order

The lifts will be out of order between platform 1 and platform 2 from 09:59 on 01/07/2026 until 23:59 on 01/12/2026 at Sevenoaks station.

Please note there is no 'Step Free Access' for any services heading towards London
The nearest 'Step Free Access' for London Bound Services will be Hildenborough

The ticket vending machines are out of order at Yalding station.
