Autumn timetable from Sunday 12 October
Our timetable is changing on Sunday 12 October. To help keep our trains on time during autumn we’re making some small changes to some of our services.
Some trains have been retimed, and departure times throughout the day may be slightly earlier or later.
A few morning and evening metro trains have amended calling patterns on weekdays:
- West Dulwich, Sydenham Hill, Penge East and Kent House will have 3 trains per hour off-peak rather than 4.
- At St Johns, a few morning and evening trains will not call at the station, but there will still be between 6 and 8 trains during this time.
So, whether you travel every day or a little less often, please check your train time before setting off.
You can check your journey in advance using the timetables above or use our online journey planner.

Why we’re changing the timetable
You wouldn’t think the humble leaf could cause so much trouble. 50 million leaves fall onto our tracks each autumn. When compressed under train wheels, they form a thin layer which can be as treacherous and slippery as black ice.
Our drivers need more time to stop and start the trains as the wheels have less grip on the tracks. These timetable changes give us the extra time we need to drive the trains safely.
We're on the case
- Managing hundreds of miles of trackside vegetation all year round
- Running special leaf-busting trains throughout autumn that clean the rails and apply a special gel to help trains grip the rails
- Trialling new 'Sand Rover' 4x4s that treat the track to increase grip
- Changing to an autumn timetable
