A view of a Canterbury at sunset

Day out in Canterbury

Don’t just be wowed by the home of an UNESCO World Heritage site, this city has so much more to offer

Westgate Towers under a blue sky

Make a grand entrance

A short 5 minute walk will see you heading down St Dunstan Street and under the 60ft Medieval Westgate Towers. Built in 1379 and the largest surviving city gates in England these towers make for a great start to the day exploring. From here you can explore the cobbled High Street. With a fantastic selection of high street favourites to choose from you can really lose yourself on the cobbles.

Trees in a street in Dane John gardens

Be at one with nature

Step behind Whitefriars shopping centre and you’ll find the well kept Dane John Park complete with colourful flower beds, bandstand and a children’s maze. If you’re feeling energetic walk the medieval city walls or climb the Dane John Mound for a scenic view over the city.

Old Weaver's House by a river

Lunch O’Clock

Head back to the high street for lunch in The Old Weavers, a wattle and daub, Tudor style 16th century house. Set on the banks of the Great Stour there are plenty of tasty food options to choose from in this great little establishment. After your meal why not take a tour of the river on a punt where you can see the historic ducking stool.

Canterbury Cathedral under a blue sky

Get your culture fix

The Anglican Gothic cathedral dominates the Canterbury skyline with 1,400 years of history. Centrally located, the cathedral is an attraction you can’t miss and underpins nearly all of Canterbury’s history. For a unique experience take a guided tour or discover the cathedral at your own pace and delve into the Nave, the Crypt and the Trinity Chapel.
