Damage caused to a number of our trains as a result of the recent snow and ice, means that some trains may be formed of fewer carriages than usual over the next couple of weeks, and may be shorter than usual. Our engineering teams are working hard to repair the damage to trains and bring them back into service as soon as possible. A list of trains which are shorter can be found in the 'Other updates' section at the bottom of this page.
In addition to the train damage, some toilet facilities on trains and at stations were affected by freezing temperatures causing pipes to burst at stations and depots – which means not all of our toilets will be open, as engineers replace the pipes. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. A list of locations where station toilets are out of use is also available further down this page. Thank you for your patience.
We'd like to sincerely apologise to all our passengers who were caught up in the disruption on Friday 2 March and especially those stranded on busy trains.
Despite us working closely with Network Rail to de-ice tracks, trains still came to a stand in the Lewisham area after struggling to draw power from the frozen third rail. On several occasions, some passengers evacuated trains against the advice of railway staff and the British Transport Police; presenting a significant risk to their safety and hindering our ability to get trains running again.
We would like to hear from passengers who were stranded on trains on Friday 2 March and ask you to get in touch by contacting our Customer Services team. Let us know which train you were on. We will be providing additional compensation in recognition of your experience.
We are also doubling Delay Repay compensation for all passengers delayed Tuesday 27 February to Friday 2 March inclusive.
Passengers who bought tickets from us and weren’t able to travel from Tuesday 27 February to Friday 2 March can get a refund.
