Day out in King's Cross
King’s Cross, and the area surrounding St Pancras has so much more to offer, you’ll soon forget you’ve only just stepped off the train
Here are our suggestions to help you discover more #SEhiddengems
Explore Coal Drops Yard
Coal Drops Yard is a new shopping and restaurant district in London’s King’s Cross where art, culture and commerce come together. The reimagined set of historic buildings and arches located directly adjacent to Granary Square and Regent’s Canal, houses over fifty stores from a unique mix of established and emerging brands, along with cafés, bars, top independent restaurants and new public spaces. Coal Drops Yard brings together a community of like-minded brands alongside new public spaces, making it an oasis-like space for visitors to dwell, discover and to explore.
Take a walk on the canal-side
If you head up towards the river along Camley Street and continue to follow the road over it, you’ll see some steps on your right down to the Regents Canal Towpath. Follow the canal either way, but taking a right will see you towards Granary Square. This scenic walk will take you past locks, canal boats and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Don’t skip lunch
Stop for a freshly sourced treat with a twist. The kitchen serves up food made with organic ingredients from its community garden, built by young people and local volunteers. From salads and healthy juices to a homemade chocolate and rosemary loaf, the Skip Garden Kitchen enables young people to learn new skills whilst also producing delicious food. Look out for their supper clubs and seasonal feasts also.
Consider yourself an aspiring illustrator?
Originally set up by a group of leading illustrators, including Quentin Blake, this is the UK’s only public gallery dedicated to illustration and graphic art. With ten exhibitions a year, as well as a programme of events, the House of Illustration has something to inspire all.
