Getting to the football on time

Date: 26 Aug 2010

With the new football season in full swing, supporters are finding that the trip to visit their teams in London is now even easier. The introduction of the High Speed service arriving into St Pancras International puts supporters in the right place to get to their stadium.

Vince Lucas, service delivery director, Southeastern said, “This is the first year that supporters in Kent have been able to take advantage of the High Speed service at the weekend to get to the football. We have seen an increase in people driving to Ebbsfleet International and parking before travelling just 17 minutes on the train into St Pancras. It’s the ultimate park and ride station. With the excellent underground connections at St Pancras supporters can be at the game within half an hour or so.”

Ebbsfleet International park and ride means fans can drive to the station before getting on a service that takes them to London in just 17 minutes. With a train every 15 minutes there is no risk of being late for kick-off.

St Pancras International itself is one of the best connected stations in London with the Piccadilly, Northern, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City Underground lines taking passengers directly to the rest of London.

For fans of Gillingham and Charlton, for example, wanting to travel to away games in the rest of the UK there are also great connections at St Pancras International using First Capital Connect and East Midland Trains in the station and also King’s Cross and Euston within walking distance. For those more adventurous fans wanting to follow their team in Europe they can also catch Eurostar services from both St Pancras and Ebbsfleet International stations.

“We’re sure fans will see the benefits of using the High Speed service and also look to take advantage of the deals that we also offer. For families they can use Family Rail Cards and for friends they can benefit from GroupSave tickets making substantial savings on their days out,” Vince Lucas continued.
