Managing Director's Statement of Safety Policy

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Continuous improvement in our health and safety performance is an essential component of our vision to be “working together to bring people together”.

I am committed to providing every Southeastern employee with:

  • a safe and healthy place of work
  • safe methods of working which have been assessed for risks and include appropriate controls
  • the tools, equipment and other facilities necessary to work safely
  • information, training and supervision to work safely
  • regular communications and information on safety matters

Our organisation structures provide for these commitments to be delivered throughout Southeastern by our management and supervisory teams, working closely with employees and their safety representatives to identify and address safety issues.

Our culture does not tolerate unsafe behaviours or conditions. We expect every employee to:

  • take personal responsibility for their own safety and that of colleagues, passengers and the general public
  • co-operate with safety requirements and follow safe methods of work
  • stop work if they consider their safety or that of others to be compromised
  • take action as appropriate to rectify or report safety hazards

We set ourselves the target of delivering the highest standards of health and safety performance to our employees, passengers, contractors, visitors and neighbours. Our Safety Plan is risk-based and drives continuous improvements in health and safety performance across Southeastern. We measure our performance against other comparable companies and aim to be the best.

We investigate all accidents, incidents and criminal acts so that lessons can be learned, and monitor and audit our health and safety performance. Every four weeks the Executive team hold a dedicated safety and environment meeting which reviews this information and decides on appropriate follow-up actions.

We have a good safety record, but we can do better. My Executive colleagues and I are committed to Southeastern delivering world-class health and safety performance.

Charles Horton, Managing Director
